About Nourishing Schools

Nourishing Schools has been designed by Ashoka India’s Health and Nutrition Initiative in partnership with various stakeholders. It aims to develop young changemakers aged between 9-14 years, who can take charge of their own nutrition and that of their communities. The broad objective is to develop a toolkit that enables schools to improve the nutrition of school children and communities. Ashoka has partnered with Ashoka Fellow Sunanda Mane and her organization Lend-A-Hand India, Ashoka Fellow Prema Gopalan and her organization Swayam Shikshan Prayog and Ashoka Fellow Deep Jyoti Sonu Brahma and his organization Farm2Food Foundation to roll out Nourishing Schools with 40 schools in Maharashtra & Assam. Responsibilities: 

  1. Build and strengthen the Nourishing Schools network in India – slated to grow to at least 100 new schools in the next one year
  2. Coordination and ownership of developing next version of Nourishing Schools toolkit with partner organizations
  3. Support implementation of the toolkit in the field, in partnership with implementing organizations
  4. Supervise implementation of baseline and impact assessment surveys with partner organizations (qualitative and quantitative)
  5. Organize quarterly co-creation workshops to develop new components for the Nourishing Schools toolkit
  6. Contribute to execution of communication strategy around impact and insights from Nourishing Schools
  7. Reporting and documentation for Ashoka and funders
  8. Contribute to other Ashoka initiatives as appropriate

What we look for in an ideal candidate:

We are looking for an exceptional individual with a passion for social change, having experience in working for a business/corporate. 

Essential Skills / Experience:

  • Total 3-5 years of experience
  • Entrepreneurial capabilities; entrepreneurship or intrapreneurship experience with creating and leading new businesses, organizations or initiatives
  • Attention to detail and strong execution capabilities
  • Willingness to travel at least once a quarter 
  • Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and creativity

Desirable Skills / Experience:

  • Exposure to rural India is desirable but not necessary
  • 1-2 years experience in agriculture or education is desirable but not necessary

Behavioral skills:  

  • Ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of people from different backgrounds 
  • Self-motivation, ability to take ownership of programs and work with minimal supervision
  • Good communication skills
  • Commitment to social change and strong ethical fibre
