LFAI Partnerships

Educating the Public about Social Entrepreneurs
Ashoka LFAI is working to educate future generations about the role of social entrepreneurs in society, and has created pedagogical materials on social entrepreneurs through a partnership with Havard’s Business School and Kennedy School of Government in addition to MIT’s Poverty Laboratory.

Advocates for Social Entrepreneurs
Ashoka LFAI is also interested in creating a pro bono culture within private law firms where lawyers are encouraged to help address the legal needs of citizen sector organizations. The newly launched Advocates for Social Entrepreneurs network will used innovative technology developed by Pro Bono Net, a New York based nonprofit, to connect social entrepreneurs to lawyers and provide them a platform with which to share legal information.

Fellow Securities Program
Social change leaders have historically been the targets of threat and intimidation as they try to restructure the balance of power, hierarchy, and opportunities in their communities. Ashoka Fellows, the innovative champions of such social change around the world, are no exception. The impetus for Ashoka’s Fellow Security Initiative stems from a step-change in the intensity and nature of threats coupled with a deeper question: What can Ashoka – Fellows, staff, partners, and friends – do to protect Fellows, and by extension their families, colleagues, and the communities they serve?

Introduced in July 2005 with a consultation organized by Ashoka and led by the Asian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) in Hong Kong, Ashoka’s Fellow Security Initiative answers the above question on multiple levels. At its core, Ashoka is a caring community, not only helping Fellows professionally to strengthen and spread their social impact, but also helping them to understand, assess, and mitigate the personal risks they face through their work. It is a community of experts, seasoned leaders and social entrepreneurs whose experience, expertise, and institutional frameworks are at the service of Ashoka Fellow colleagues facing security threats. And it is a community of action, prepared to intervene immediately to protect Ashoka Fellows, their families, and their colleagues.

For its own part, the Law for All Initiative plays an active role in supporting the Fellow Security Program.
